General Car Rental Questions

1. What Are The Pre-Requisites To Renting A Vehicle?
  • To qualify, you need to have a full license from any registered province/state with a minimum age of over 23 years.
  • If you are between the ages of 23 and 25, an underage daily fee may apply.
  • In Ontario, you must have a “G” license to qualify. In addition, you must present a major credit card with the renter’s name.
  • The destination must be mentioned at the time of rental due to insurance regulations.
  • A valid driver’s license from the renter’s/driver’s country of origin.
  • A valid passport.
  • A valid major credit card with the renter’s name.

If you don’t have your own transferable auto insurance, you should contact your provider to confirm your coverage before renting, as they won’t share details with us due to privacy policies. Without purchasing a collision damage waiver, you will be fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle. If you do choose the waiver, it will cover part of the cost in case of collision damage, with you only paying the deductible; however, it does not cover losses like theft, fire, vandalism, floods, or other natural events. We may also refuse rental if proper insurance proof is not provided.

If you plan to rely on credit card insurance, check with your provider, as coverage often has restrictions on vehicle type, value, and eligibility—commercial vehicles are typically not covered. It’s also important that your credit card account is active and in good standing, or coverage may be denied. Yes, mileage restrictions apply for local renters, with a limit of 200 km per day and 1,400 km per week. Any additional distance beyond these limits will be charged at $0.20 per km, or out-of-town rates may apply. For specific needs or exceptions, a Customer Representative can assist on an individual basis.

Any changes to the reservation or rental may result in a change of rate or additional fees. Makes/models are examples only and are not guaranteed. If you require multiple vehicles for the same or overlapping time periods. The Customer Representative will be able to help.

Non-prepaid reservations are held for 1 hour from the original time of pickup.

Pick-up and drop-off services are available within a 3 km radius of the rental office during business hours. Please contact your nearest location for details. If a vehicle is returned after business hours, charges will continue until the next business day and until it is inspected by a Customer Service Representative.

If your reservation was confirmed directly with Affordable Car and Truck Rental, either online or by phone, please use the same source to cancel your reservation within 48 hours of the original reservation; otherwise, cancellation fees may apply.
  • The renter is responsible for paying all parking tickets and charges for toll routes used.
  • An additional charge of a $50 administration fee may apply.
  • If you have a transponder, it may or may not work with the rental car, as the registered plates differ. Please ensure you contact your toll provider for more details.
